Create a relation field
Connect records from two objects, such as people and the company they work for.
A relation field links records of two objects. Each side gets its own field, so a Company shows its People and each Person shows their Company.
Relation names can't be changed after they are created, because the API uses them. Choose them carefully.
Before you start
Decide:
- Which two objects you are connecting.
- Which side is the "one" and which is the "many" (many People work at one Company).
- The field name on each side.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Data Model and open the "many" object.
- Click + Add field and choose Relation.
- Pick the target object and the type: Many-to-one or One-to-many.
- Name the field on both sides.
- Click Save.
Example: Contracts and Companies
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Object | Contracts |
| Target | Companies |
| Type | Many-to-one |
| Field on Contracts | Company |
| Field on Companies | Contracts |
Each contract now points to one company, and each company lists its contracts.
Removing a relation
Open the field menu (⋮) and choose Deactivate. The links are hidden, not deleted, and come back if you reactivate the field. Records themselves are never deleted.
